Laura Robson and Sally Peers have bowed out of the Women’s Doubles at the Australian Open 6-4, 6-1, losing to number 15 seeds, Maria Kirilenko of Russia and Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland. They started the match well and were actually leading by 4-0 in the opening set and it looked like the pair’s surprising progression through the tournament was going to continue with another upset. Their opponents finally found their rhythm though and eventually levelled the set before going on to take it 6-4. The momentum was then with Kirilenko and Radwanska who went on to win the match.
Apparently Laura Robson will still take home a £15,400 cheque for her doubles performance and she’s still in the Junior’s Tournament and she will play her Quarter Finals match tomorrow.
